Before and after

Not “can I have your attention please.” The lasagne.

Most MCs get a timeline from the venue and nothing else. You get the timeline, the words and the cue to say them.

Before: what the MC was given

“7:00 guests seated. 7:10 intro bridal party + couple. 7:20 speeches: dad, best man, maid of honour. 8:00 dinner. 9:00 first dance, then cake. Bar is cash after 10. Be funny but not too funny – Priya”

After: 7:10, the entrance (from the cue cards)

7:10 · Entrance · stand by the dance floor, mic up, wait for the DJ's nod. “Good evening, everyone. I'm Dev, Tom's housemate for three years and the only person at this wedding who has eaten more of Priya's lasagne than Tom has. I've been asked to keep this evening on time, which anyone who has waited for Tom at a train station will find funny. Please stand, make some noise, and welcome the people who got them here: first, Priya's parents, Meera and Raj…”

Sample: Priya, Tom and Dev are made up. Every real script comes only from the details you send.

Questions

I have never MCed anything. Is this enough?

Yes. The script is every word you say, in order, with the time each block starts, who to look at and when to hand over. Most first-time MCs say 10 to 12 minutes of words across the whole evening; the rest is reading the room, and the cue notes tell you what to watch for.

Will it be funny?

As funny as the couple want. You pick the tone, and the jokes come from the stories you give us about the couple and about you, never from a list of wedding gags, and never at anyone's expense.

What if the timeline changes on the day?

Every block is its own cue card, so you can swap the order or drop one without rewriting. The running order has a blank timing column for the planner's final times.
